We had a lovely assembly this morning when some of the children came in wearing their Cross Country medals from the weekend!

Here’s a report!

Georgeham’s intrepid team of cross country runners took part in the Gliddon and Squire X Country League Finals at West Buckland School this weekend.  The event was rescheduled after snow earlier in the season and luckily the forecast hail (mostly) held off and the wind dropped (slightly) from earlier in the week.

The course was muddy but relatively fast and flat and everyone gave it their all – determined to end the season on a high.  The Under 9 girls all finished strong with PB positions for Kitty, Elfini and Martha (who came in a phenomenal 10th position in the largest field of the day).   The Under 9 boys beat off the nerves to run confidently with some PBs thrown in – Harry, Alfred and Jack came in smiling!  Chloe Hagley once again carried the flag solo for the Under 11 girls and Fin, Fred, Archie and Sam again drew on a brilliant mix of humour, competitive spirit and team work to finish high up the field – running in one after the other in a Georgeham bunch all in the top 25!

For most of the group this has been their first cross country season – they’ve been joined by other brilliant runners along the way including Evie, Elsie, Myah and Josie.  Its been great to see Georgeham School represented so brilliantly and the teams holding their own against larger or more well established schools and athletic clubs.  The Under 9 Girls team have moved steadily up the field at each event, finishing in 11th place overall and the Under 11’s have done brilliantly moving from mid teens position to finish in 6th.  Hopefully next season we’ll be able to field full teams in each age group!  Regardless of position – they’ve all run in mud, grass and ditches, in rain, wind and cold and done so with huge smiles and lots of support for each other.

Well done all of you!  Lets see if we can field an even bigger team next year!
