Dear Parents and Carers,
What a term it has been! Thank you so much for making it a memorable one as we take the next step as a school community. From 1st April, Georgeham CofE Primary School will join Ventrus Multi Academy Trust which we are very excited about. During our time in managing partnership, Ventrus has provided us with so much support and guidance and we look forward to continuing our journey together.
Thank you to those who have been able to attend a parent/carer evening session with your child’s class teacher – it is such a valuable session to inform you of how well your child is progressing and what we can do to support their learning for the rest of the year. If you haven’t met your child’s class teacher I would actively encourage you to arrange a meeting.
Shortly after the Easter holiday, I will be sending out a formal letter confirming our partnership with Ventrus as well as feedback from the recent parent/carer survey. Thank you to those who have completed the survey as it will give us ideas on how to improve the school for our children and wider community.
Although it was the last day of term, we had lots of exciting things for the children to do in science morning! The children swapped classes through the morning to engage in different experiments. Thank you Mrs Smith for coordinating this!
I hope you all have a wonderful Easter holiday – stay safe and we look forward to seeing you all again on Monday 15th April.
Kind regards,   KF

School Photographs.

We are returning to Tempest for this years school photographs. Whilst it was lovely to try something different,  it showed the amount of work required to run this sort of service, for which Tempest are totally set up, and we unfortunately were not. The take up did not support the cause either so we will be putting it back in Tempest’s hands.  Emily will be here on Thursday 9th May. More info on that nearer the end of April which also = a reminder to book a hair cut 😉

Attendance We report the attendance of individual year groups as it’s a really good way to see if school attendance is at a good percentage…  as high as possible of course! The DfE have a target of 96.5%
Attending school regularly is vital to help children achieve and to give them the best possible start in life. It’s also the legal requirement of parents once children are of school age and enrolled in mainstream education. Ofsted has a strong view about attendance of course. Too many absences can lead into difficult discussions about how we can support children to achieve and do well – we could even be downgraded for our current Good status as a result.
Absences will only be authorised if they meet exceptional circumstances. With only 190 statutory school days in the year, there are 175 days (weekends and school holidays) left to plan for family visits, non-urgent medical/dental appointments, holidays etc. School holidays are published well in advance and parents are expected to plan and take family holidays at this time so as not to disrupt their child’s education. We also try to arrange our Inset (training) days to provide time for travel… such as this term’s Friday October 20th.
Holidays… are almost always not recognised as meeting ‘exceptional circumstances’ and therefore an absence would be unauthorised. This could result in a penalty notice being issued by DCC.
Punctuality is important too, and the earlier we get our children into the right habits, the better. You may not realise that being just 5 minutes late every day equals 3 days of school lost a year. Please bring your child for 8.45am when they door is open and the classroom has a learning activity ready for them.
