Today was my last day as interim headteacher at Georgeham. It has been a privilege to work in this school – with the dedicated and caring staff and with the talented and kind children. Thank you for your support through this term. I’m very glad that I will be able to keep in contact with Georgeham next term as part of the Ventrus team working with the school. I wish you and your families a restful Christmas and look forward to seeing you in 2014.   JG

Attendance this week

Whole school attendance this week was 88.03
C1  83.61%      C2 91.43%      C3 90%     C4 85.67%
our Autumn term overall figure was 94.34%

May you all have a restful and healthy Christmas
and return full of spirit for a much shorter and getting lighter again Spring term 😉

It is with great pleasure (and sadness) and appropriateness that this weeks stars are :

Class 2 – Felicity Carlino

Class 3 – Henry Carlino

Class 4 – Isabelle Carlino

Bon voyage to the Carlino family – we will all miss you. Have the very best adventure, but maybe don’t send us a postcard as we will be very jealous. Its been a pleasure to have you in our community, New Zealand will be an even better place with you there 😉

and the early years star was Joey Pavitt  (even though he wasn’t in) and, most deservedly, Mrs Emily Parker of course.

What a year.  We have completed 12 months,  had 11 different day trips from gardens (Rosemore and Eden) , to London and Lundy, beaches castles and a Victorian mill, we had 10 weeks of holidays ! plus 9 extra days off   (with strikes and The Coronation). We welcomed 8 new starters, went to 7 different sporting events (from swimming, basketball, cross country running and cricket). Most importantly we had 6 half terms of full on education, we raised 5 hundred and 80 pounds at our Christmas Fair (nice one). We enjoyed 4 non uniform days, somehow made 3 turkeys feed almost 100 people, had 2 headmasters for Christmas dinner, and amalgamated into ONE big happy school ! Bravo to everyone.

The last two weeks have been particularly full on finishing with some memorable moments, the nativity was as special as it always is, the Peter Pan spectacular, Christmas Dinner was a big hit (especially having and seeing 2x head masters in pinnies in the kitchen 🙂  and there was plenty of partying today, we all had big smiles seeing the early years team in their pyjamas. The staff are very sad to say goodbye to Mr Jonathan Gower who has been an inspiration, (we had a little party for him too), and we wish him all the best in his next adventure too.
So, that’s a wrap. We wish you and yours a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, see you then x

Attendance We report the attendance of individual year groups as it’s a really good way to see if school attendance is at a good percentage…  as high as possible of course! The DfE have a target of 96.5%
Attending school regularly is vital to help children achieve and to give them the best possible start in life. It’s also the legal requirement of parents once children are of school age and enrolled in mainstream education. Ofsted has a strong view about attendance of course. Too many absences can lead into difficult discussions about how we can support children to achieve and do well – we could even be downgraded for our current Good status as a result.
Absences will only be authorised if they meet exceptional circumstances. With only 190 statutory school days in the year, there are 175 days (weekends and school holidays) left to plan for family visits, non-urgent medical/dental appointments, holidays etc. School holidays are published well in advance and parents are expected to plan and take family holidays at this time so as not to disrupt their child’s education. We also try to arrange our Inset (training) days to provide time for travel… such as this term’s Friday October 20th.
Holidays… are almost always not recognised as meeting ‘exceptional circumstances’ and therefore an absence would be unauthorised. This could result in a penalty notice being issued by DCC.
Punctuality is important too, and the earlier we get our children into the right habits, the better. You may not realise that being just 5 minutes late every day equals 3 days of school lost a year. Please bring your child for 8.45am when they door is open and the classroom has a learning activity ready for them.

We are a Nut free school.  Even on school trips !

We understand that its not at the forefront of everyone’s mind, but it is important,
even on school trips, and even if outdoors. Thank you.

We are community

Our school is a community, but we are also part of a wider local and global community.
We encourage a sense of belonging and responsibility towards each other, our environment and the world we live in.

‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’  (Matthew 22 v39)
