I’m very pleased to be able to invite you to attend our Harvest Service at St George’s Church at 1.30pm on Monday 9th October. Our value this half-term is ‘Community’ so it is great to be working with the church to put on this event.

We have been asked to collect non-perishable food donations for Braunton foodbank. Can I ask us to work together as a community for this? If you’re able to donate some food and are happy to do so, there will be a box for collections in the hall from Monday.

Please do not feel that you have to donate. We know that, for many, times are tough. We will take whatever donations we receive down to the church and share them amongst us for use in the service. No-one has to bring anything and no-one will be singled out if they don’t.

The service will include some singing, readings and a talk from Rev. Tim. It will likely last for about 40 minutes. We will then walk back to school and end-of-day dismissal will be from school as usual.

I hope that makes sense!

Thank you very much for your support and understanding.

Christmas Shoe boxes – Collection date is MONDAY 13th November.

We hope you found a pamphlet for this years donation of a Christmas shoe box in the big brown envelope that went out with this years Data Collection Sheets.
Christmas may feel like some time away but in order to deliver them in time to make some one really happy this Christmas we need to prepare them early. Lets start stacking them up. It will generate a buzz of excitement too, get us through this long autumn term ! Is it too soon to get the Christmas ball rolling… 😉
Collection date is MONDAY 13th November.
Half term could be a good time to decorate a box and find some small appropriate gifts to go inside it – see the pamphlet for age and gender appropriate ideas.

X Country Running Club:
Ms McCormick (our sports lead) has entered a lot of children, who will represent Georgeham Primary School, in the local N Devon Cross Country league !
A Georgeham school sports vest has been give out to all competitors. Please keep it until after the last event in March.
When you arrive at the event you need to go to the registration desk to get your child/s race number, which you pin to the vest. You must keep this number for all events so look after it !
You might see Ms McCormick at one or two of the events but parents are responsible for their children taking part in this event; its important that you familiarise yourself with the dates, various different locations, parking, the start time for your children’s age groups, (they run a v tight ship and will not wait for latecomer)  and the course map for the location. (Allow plenty of time to get to the venue, park, to do a little warm up run, or even to walk the course if you wish to.)
If you can’t make it to any of the dates don’t worry, but please inform the organisers not us !

Attendance We report the attendance of individual year groups as it’s a really good way to see if school attendance is at a good percentage…  as high as possible of course! The DfE have a target of 96.5%
Attending school regularly is vital to help children achieve and to give them the best possible start in life. It’s also the legal requirement of parents once children are of school age and enrolled in mainstream education. Ofsted has a strong view about attendance of course. Too many absences can lead into difficult discussions about how we can support children to achieve and do well – we could even be downgraded for our current Good status as a result.
Absences will only be authorised if they meet exceptional circumstances. With only 190 statutory school days in the year, there are 175 days (weekends and school holidays) left to plan for family visits, non-urgent medical/dental appointments, holidays etc. School holidays are published well in advance and parents are expected to plan and take family holidays at this time so as not to disrupt their child’s education. We also try to arrange our Inset (training) days to provide time for travel… such as this term’s Friday October 20th.
Holidays… are almost always not recognised as meeting ‘exceptional circumstances’ and therefore an absence would be unauthorised. This could result in a penalty notice being issued by DCC.
Punctuality is important too, and the earlier we get our children into the right habits, the better. You may not realise that being just 5 minutes late every day equals 3 days of school lost a year. Please bring your child for 8.45am when they door is open and the classroom has a learning activity ready for them.

Nut free !  This is really important as there are nut allergy sufferers in the school.
Peanuts and most kinds of tree nuts such as almonds, cashews, hazelnuts, and pine nuts, should not be brought into school in any form i.e. in snack bars, peanut butter sandwiches, or even as pesto pasta in packed lunches !

Keri is super aware about keeping our staff and children safe by ensuring the kitchen and surrounding areas are kept allergen free; she is very happy to speak with you if you have concerns.

Our school is a community, but we are also part of a wider local and global community.
We encourage a sense of belonging and responsibility towards each other, our environment and the world we live in.
