This ½ term’s school value is…

We are Adventurous.

We’re lucky to live in a truly beautiful part of the world. We give our children a loving, nurturing space in which to take risks, feel free and get a taste for a life full of adventures.

‘Encourage one another, and build each other up.’  (1 Thessalonians 5 v1)

Attendance so far…

School average for this week
Class 1: 93.5%
Class 2: 95.6% Class 3: 95.2% Class 4: 95.7%
School average…  for the year so far is 95.3

Thankfully this week’s data has kept our average level at 95.3%
To increase it, we need to have higher data and improved attendance.
(Please have a look at our Attendance page on our website for more information.)

Our School Value this half-term is We Are Adventurous.  The bible passage is from Thessalonians and talks about encouraging one another.  How utterly brilliant it was for me to do individual Class Assemblies this afternoon to hand out the Class Star certificates and teddies and hear about how wonderful the classes have been.  It seems that everyone has been positive and supportive of each other this week.  Class 3 told me that having a go, taking risks and challenging yourself were important things for our school value of being Adventurous, and it was delightful to see it in action this week!

The Coronation Celebration will be happening towards the end of the school day, up at the village Playing Field.  The big rain cloud has passed by and I’m hoping the next one will be after our singing and dancing.  Please cross your fingers and pray for the sun whilst we’re being adventurous!  Oh, and also through ‘The Plait’ as that’s the hardest Maypole dance and keep s going wrong!!

We’re aiming for a 2.45 start.  All children, including Preschool, are to be picked up from the Playing field at 3.15, but do of course feel free to stay on and join in the celebrations.

Thanks to Georgeham Parish Council for organising the Coronoation Event and putting many things on for the children and families!
The Parish Council will also have a stall where they’ll be researching what they could do to refurbish the play area.  There will also be a table for children to draw and write their opinions of what they think of the park.   Have a think on these questions… How often do you play in the park?  What are your favourite things to do in the park?  Do you feel safe in the park?  And, what would like to see in the park?

There are another TWO weekend Coronation Celebrations taking place on the weekend… here’s some more information!

Saturday St. Mary’s Church, Croyde – 10-4pm, Cream teas, coffee, cake, flowers and watching the coronation on screen.
Sunday Croyde Village Hall, 12-4pm – food sharing and fancy dress as Kings or Queens.

Next Week:
Monday – Bank Holiday
Tuesday – from Tuesday, Year 6 will be doing their formal SATs tests.
Friday – Class 1 and 2 are heading off to Rosemoor

I’m sure Sarah Cox would like us to mention that we have spaces available for children to learn guitar.
Lessons are run either individually or in pairs at some point through the school week using our School House.

We’re a Nut free school, so that means that most kinds of tree nuts (such as almonds, cashews, hazelnuts, pine nuts) and also peanuts shouldn’t be brought in to school. Sadly, this also means that pesto sauce shouldn’t be brought into school as it contains pine nuts. Sorry if this causes any inconvenience, but I hope you can help us as best as you can to keep our children safe.

Attendance We frequently report the attendance of individual year groups as it’s a really good way to see if school attendance is at a good percentage… with it as high as possible of course! The DfE have a target of 96.5% but sadly, we finished the year, last July, being slightly below this.
Attending school regularly is vital to help children achieve and to give them the best possible start in life. It’s also a legal requirement of parents once children are of school age and enrolled in mainstream education. Ofsted has a strong view about attendance of course and, therefore, too many absences can lead into difficult discussions about how we can support children to achieve and do well – we could even be downgraded for our current Good status as a result.
Absences will only be authorised if they meet exceptional circumstances. With only 190 statutory school days in the year, there are 175 days (weekends and school holidays) left to plan for family visits, non-urgent medical/dental appointments, holidays etc. School holidays are published well in advance and parents are expected to plan and take family holidays at this time so as not to disrupt their child’s education. We also try to arrange our Inset (training) days to provide time for travel… such as this term’s October 21st.
Holidays… are almost always not recognised as meeting ‘exceptional circumstances’ and therefore an absence would be unauthorised. This could result in a penalty notice being issued by DCC.
Punctuality is important too, and the earlier we get our children into the right habits, the better. You may not realise that being just 5 minutes late every day equals 3 days of school lost a year. Please bring your child for 8.45am when they door is open and the classroom has a learning activity ready for them.
