Just a quick note of thanks to everyone who helped with the messages regarding school lunches yesterday.  Our communication system seems to work really well – thanks!

This week coming…

In fact, on Sunday… FROGS also has a Craft Fair link on Sunday between 12 and 5pm in Georgeham Village Hall.  Do go along and have a glass of mulled wine and see what crafts you could gather in preparation for Christmas.  It’s a lovely Fair… and it really helps out FROGS’ funds!  (Thanks to the team!)
They may also have a stall or two still available so do get in touch with KATEWOODESON@GMAIL.COM to enquire.

PE kits are needed for Class 3 on Tuesday and Class 4 on Thursday
There’s a Basketball festival on Thursday for Class 3 – a letter came out today about this, but the children need to be at Braunton Academy for 9am please.

We’ve a dentist coming on Friday next week.  Kim will be talking to the children about how important our teeth are, and how to look after them.

We’ve some important dates at the bottom of this Newsletter… but please note that we also have the Swimarathon on, on the same day as the Crib Service.  (Again, an email with details has already come out about this.)
Class 3 – could you please send back the Google Workspace Permission form?  Lottie (admin@georgeham-primary.devon.sch.uk) can email or print out a form if you need to.

Christmas Dates

Sunday 4th – 10am – Crib on The Green, meeting at St. George’s Church
Wednesday 7th – School Nativity – 2.30pm AND 6.00pm, with all children required please.
Thursday 8th – Christmas Jumper Day – a small donation for Save The children please!
… how about a Christmas jumper swap too – do you all wear the same jumper each year?  (Who’s going to swap with me?!)

Sunday 11th – 6pm – Christingle, at St. George’s Church
Wednesday 14th – pupils’ Christmas lunch day
Thursday 15th – 1.30pm (to 3pm) – Christmas Fair / Coffee afternoon – do come along to buy things and play games on the children’s stalls, or simply drink tea and eat cake in Class 4 with our FROGS.

Good luck to those attending the Climbing competition on Saturday!  (Don’t forget to take your parents’ forms with you)

School applications are open.  Here’s the link to our previous post regarding the application round for next year’s intake, and a link to Devon’s Admissions’ website.

Attendance We frequently report the attendance of individual year groups as it’s a really good way to see if school attendance is at a good percentage… with it as high as possible of course! The DfE have a target of 96.5% but sadly, we finished the year, last July, being slightly below this.
Attending school regularly is vital to help children achieve and to give them the best possible start in life. It’s also a legal requirement of parents once children are of school age and enrolled in mainstream education. Ofsted has a strong view about attendance of course and, therefore, too many absences can lead into difficult discussions about how we can support children to achieve and do well – we could even be downgraded for our current Good status as a result.
Absenceswill only be authorised if they meet exceptional circumstances. With only 190 statutory school days in the year, there are 175 days (weekends and school holidays) left to plan for family visits, non-urgent medical/dental appointments, holidays etc.  School holidays are published well in advance and parents are expected to plan and take family holidays at this time so as not to disrupt their child’s education. We also try to arrange our Inset (training) days to provide time for travel… such as this term’s October 21st.

Holidays… are almost always not recognised as meeting ‘exceptional circumstances’ and therefore an absence would be unauthorised.  This could result in a penalty notice being issued by DCC.

Punctualityis important too, and the earlier we get our children into the right habits, the better. You may not realise that being just 5 minutes late every day equals 3 days of school lost a year. Please bring your child for 8.45am when they door is open and the classroom has a learning activity ready for them.
