WRAP AROUND CARE SURVEY: link

Thank you for your time in completing the PARENTS survey.
The results were discussed at length in our Full Governing Board meeting last week and provide an excellent contribution to our School Strategy for the 2023-2024 year.
As Governors we are reviewing the Wrap Around provision at the school.  We need to ensure it is financially viable with sufficient take up to make it work whilst balancing that with our strong commitment to ensuring that the needs of working families and those that benefit from additional care are met in our community.

Georgeham School Wrap around care :

A Breakfast Club (BC) on Monday to Friday from 08:00 to school start.
An After School Club (ASC) from 15.15 -17:00 (Tuesday – Thursday)

Wrap Around Care at all schools supports many families working patterns. As Governors we feel it is an important part of school provision.

The session play at BC / ASC Is not structured, this is to encourage free play,  but can often involve art, puzzles, bracelet making, board games and outdoor play with the play equipment. The sessions are run at 1:8 ratio and the children often comment on their love of the ‘after school club biscuits’ and the ability to play with the older and younger children respectively. More information can be found at:  https://georgehamceps.wpengine.com/after-school-club-list/
Please take the time to review the questions below (another survey!) so we can problem solve a way to ensure we can make the Wrap around care sustainable and maximised.
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE TO OUR PARENT COMMUNITY:
THE MORE INPUT WE GET FROM THE PARENTS THE BETTER WE ARE AS A SCHOOL 🙂

Hopefully, this paragraph about school photos comes through to you, as we’ve heard it’s not been showing on emailed versions of the Newsletter.  (Emailed today too)

MONDAY 5th JUNE (first day back after half term)SCHOOL PHOTOS

We have decided to take a different approach to school photos this year having asked for parents’ feedback through a Google form before Christmas. This year we are proposing that photographer Richard Crossman, who is also a parent at the school and some of you will know, will come and take pictures of the children in a more contemporary style. The intention is that we will then give you opportunity to have a look at the photos online before deciding whether or not to buy digital copies of them which wold mean you could make a choice about how to use or print them, and at a more palatable price than that of the BIG companies that we’ve used in the past.

Our previous provider charged around £17 for one physical photo, but we’re planning on providing a memory stick or digital download with all the photos that we take of your child for a much more palatable cost of £12.  Richard’s also providing the school with a better commission rate than we’ve had in the past, which will further support our funds for resources.
So, book in those half term hair cuts now.

Class 1 have learnt a lot about minibeasts this half-term and finished off their learning with a lovely walk to the park.  Have a read about what they found here.

Please don’t forget suncream and hats for after the half-term break.  It’s also a good break in this warm weathe to ensure they all return with clean hair

I hope you have a great half term break and are safe in the sun!

First week back:

Monday – school photos.
Wednesday – Fire Safety talk for year 2 and 5.
Thursday – Year 2 Sleepover Parents’ meeting at 2.30pm
Friday – no basketball club

Please have a look at calendar at bottom of the website for further dates for the diary: Click here

After half term.…. If you wish to take up singing lessons offered by  Sarah Cox please email her directly with your child’s name, potential singing partner, what year group they are in and any questions you may have. Her email address is: sarahcoxtutoring@gmail.com.

We’re a Nut free school, so that means that most kinds of tree nuts (such as almonds, cashews, hazelnuts, pine nuts) and also peanuts shouldn’t be brought in to school. Sadly, this also means that pesto sauce shouldn’t be brought into school as it contains pine nuts. Sorry if this causes any inconvenience, but I hope you can help us as best as you can to keep our children safe.

Attendance We frequently report the attendance of individual year groups as it’s a really good way to see if school attendance is at a good percentage… with it as high as possible of course! The DfE have a target of 96.5% but sadly, we finished the year, last July, being slightly below this.
Attending school regularly is vital to help children achieve and to give them the best possible start in life. It’s also a legal requirement of parents once children are of school age and enrolled in mainstream education. Ofsted has a strong view about attendance of course and, therefore, too many absences can lead into difficult discussions about how we can support children to achieve and do well – we could even be downgraded for our current Good status as a result.
Absences will only be authorised if they meet exceptional circumstances. With only 190 statutory school days in the year, there are 175 days (weekends and school holidays) left to plan for family visits, non-urgent medical/dental appointments, holidays etc. School holidays are published well in advance and parents are expected to plan and take family holidays at this time so as not to disrupt their child’s education. We also try to arrange our Inset (training) days to provide time for travel… such as this term’s October 21st.
Holidays… are almost always not recognised as meeting ‘exceptional circumstances’ and therefore an absence would be unauthorised. This could result in a penalty notice being issued by DCC.
Punctuality is important too, and the earlier we get our children into the right habits, the better. You may not realise that being just 5 minutes late every day equals 3 days of school lost a year. Please bring your child for 8.45am when they door is open and the classroom has a learning activity ready for them.
