This ½ term’s school value is…

We are Kind.

Together with our parents and our church, we provide a caring and nurturing environment where we learn to value and respect others by being valued and respected ourselves.
‘Do to others as you would have them do to you.’ (Luke 6 v31)

Attendance so far…

School average for this week
Class 1: 98.4%
Class 2: 97.6% Class 3: 97.4% Class 4: 97.3%

School average for the term so far: 97.6%

This is good and such an improvement on last year… and will be, for the children’s learning too!
(Please have a look at our Attendance page on our website for more information.)

There’s a Book Fair happening at school next week!   Each day, in the school hall, between 3pm and 3.30pm
Scholastic have changed the way it’s organised and we hope we’ve interpreted their system to make it easy for you.
How it works…
We have only two copies of each book, so once the one is purchased and taken, we need to write down what you’d like us to order in.
You pay for what you’d like online, you show us what you’ve paid for, and we write this down on an order form to get it delivered to school.

The books can be viewed in the school hall… but they can also be viewed here> https://bookfairs.scholastic.co.uk/bookcases/wtr (click along the top for different ages)
To pay for a book > https://bookfairs.scholastic.co.uk/pay/1214907

Want to pay for some books over the weekend?  Just make sure you show us the payment confirmation email and let us know what you’d like us to order for you.  (Don’t forget to show us the confirmation email, as it’s not an online ordering system but only a payment system.)

During the 1/2 hour slots at the end of the day, we’d really appreciate if a parent could help write down some of the purchases during this time, this would be really useful.

We have an Open Afternoon on Wednesday.  This is where we open the classrooms for the last bit of the day (from 2.30pm, on Wednesday) so that you can spend a short time in the classroom seeing what the children have been learning about.  We love to try to make the open afternoon be like a normal learning session, but with several adults in the classroom and inevitably many conversations taking place, it’s quite different to a normal afternoon.  What we aim to provide, is an opportunity for you to talk to your child about their learning.

Huge thanks to the FROGS team for donating £50 to each class for the teacher to spend on specific elements that will either enhance the classroom, the curriculum or the children’s learning.  Thanks very much!

Bikeability has been taking place this week, with our year 5 children practicing skills in the playground and then putting it into practice on some of the roads in Georgeham.  We’ve our last session on Monday so will hopefully have a photo appearing on the BLOG then.

This coming Thursday’s lunch – is the Friday menu of fish, nuggets or Quorn options.

(Don’t forget it’s an Inset Day on Friday and we’re closed.)

Forms also went out today for the Year 5/6 Girls’ Football Festival being held at Kingsacre School on the 20th.

Still looking for year group ‘reps’ from Years 1 and 3 .  We would love to have a point of contact for every year groups, to help us spread the word via WhatsApp or messenger groups etc.  If you could help… please email Lucy.wright@georgeham-primary.devon.sch.uk with expression of interest – that would be great!

Guitarsa message from Sarah Cox.
I teach children from Year 2 and onwards. Preferably they would have their own guitar, but this is not essential as I have some I can loan out for the short term. Parents can email me to get in touch: sarahcoxtutoring@gmail.com

Attendance We frequently report the attendance of individual year groups as it’s a really good way to see if school attendance is at a good percentage… with it as high as possible of course! The DfE have a target of 96.5% but sadly, we finished the year, last July, being slightly below this.
Attending school regularly is vital to help children achieve and to give them the best possible start in life. It’s also a legal requirement of parents once children are of school age and enrolled in mainstream education. Ofsted has a strong view about attendance of course and, therefore, too many absences can lead into difficult discussions about how we can support children to achieve and do well – we could even be downgraded for our current Good status as a result.
Absenceswill only be authorised if they meet exceptional circumstances. With only 190 statutory school days in the year, there are 175 days (weekends and school holidays) left to plan for family visits, non-urgent medical/dental appointments, holidays etc.  School holidays are published well in advance and parents are expected to plan and take family holidays at this time so as not to disrupt their child’s education. We also try to arrange our Inset (training) days to provide time for travel… such as this term’s October 21st.

Holidays… are almost always not recognised as meeting ‘exceptional circumstances’ and therefore an absence would be unauthorised.  This could result in a penalty notice being issued by DCC.

Punctualityis important too, and the earlier we get our children into the right habits, the better. You may not realise that being just 5 minutes late every day equals 3 days of school lost a year. Please bring your child for 8.45am when they door is open and the classroom has a learning activity ready for them.
