Class 3 had a great day at Exeter Museum before half term learning all about Ancient Egypt! We caught the train there – which was a first for quite a few of us – and had great fun drawing, playing and watching the views slide past.

At the award winning RAMM museum, their amazing team took us through 4 workshops – a tour of Shep-en-Mut’s tomb, African Animals, Handling artefacts and Mummification.

We mummified a fabric body complete with body parts, and all helped to wrap the mummy in linen bandages with amulets to help the pharaoh on their long journey to the underworld. We also looked at x-rays to show how Shep-en-Mut had had the organs wrapped and put back inside rather than placed in canopic jars. Handling the artefacts was also an amazing experience as the museum has some original ancient Egyptian objects as well as some Victorian replicas which were very fashionable in the Victorian age so we had to decide which objects were authentic.

At lunch some of us also had the chance to play a popular Ancient Egyptian game called Senet which was great fun, and we will be making our own Senet boards to use back in school after half term.

Well done to class 3 who were all very enthusiastic, asking some great questions and coming up with fantastic ideas for our quiz on the way back. A big thanks to parents for the early drop off and collection and a massive thanks to our parent helpers Wayne, Caroline, Hannah and Charlotte for giving their time as we couldn’t have run the trip without them.
