Staff Shout-Out… Martina

…and a link to our Celebration Assembly too!

For those who haven’t spotted a slight change in our Celebration Assemblies over the past couple of months, we’ve been adding in a Staff Shout-out each week too.  Martina works in our kitchen alongside Keri, but since Keri’s been off this week with a bad back, Martina’s gone over and above the usual, providing almost the full menu to our children, as well as the salads, puddings and clearing up too of course.  Thanks Martina, and well done!

It’s not just Martina who’s helped fill the gap though, we have several other staff who have jumped in and helped, and the Class Stars for Class 4 this week have all helped with serving the salads to the younger children too.  What a team – well done everyone!

Our FROGS have been amazing… and not only have they set up a ‘JustGiving’ page (or something very similar), but they’ve managed to get in touch with Santa, who’s now off furlough and available to come through and deliver on our school wish list.   Have a read about this, on this blog, or go straight to the Just Giving RocketFund page.

Harry in Class 3 has asked me to provide a sponsorship form for him to collect some funds for FROGS.  He intends to do several laps of the campsite on his bike, or a bigger distance on the Tarka Trail, with all the funds going to FROGS.  Thanks Harry!  If anyone would like their own sponsorship form for an activity – please let Jo know, and we’ll print one by the end of the day for you.

Reports have now been issued to Class 2, 3 and 4 and we have it in the diary that Reception reports will be issued in two weeks’ time, to give the children the full time they need for the EYFS profiles to be assessed.  It was such a delight and pleasure to read the reports and comment on them – it’s one of the highlights of my year!

Our Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education curriculum (PSHE) has evolved ever so slightly over the last year with the school buying into a scheme of work from 1Decision.  An element of PSHE is Health and Sex Education and this year, schools have been asked to consult on our policy and procedures for these two elements.  Could I ask parents to click through to the policy and email to provide your thoughts or feedback or to ask questions.

There are many other useful documents and policies on our website, and you can find them here if you’d like to explore further.

New guidance that came out this week gave a further period of restrictions to schools and the PHE added to this and asked schools to restrict social gatherings where possible.  We don’t want this to dampen the children’s experiences in school though and we’ll continue to do our best with activities on the run-up to the Summer break.

Our staff have discussed what we can do for a Sports’ Day that can be provided with 2 bubbles and the restricted use of staffing, and we can assure you that this will be going ahead, but without being able to invite parents on site.  We will ensure we take photos and blog about this though!

Transition events (children moving and experiencing new classes) will be going ahead in some shape or form for all children here, but sadly, we’ve been informed that most transition events from Year 6 to 7 have been now cancelled.  We’re working with local secondary schools to see what else they can do to support our Year 6 children.

The KS1 Beach Day is still going ahead, and so is the year 2 sleepover, and the year 5 and year 6 residentials to Lundy – all brilliant things that the children thoroughly enjoy!  Thanks again to the staff  who have put in lots of work to make sure these go ahead safely.

Another recent blog, was that of advertising a Parent Governor position and also a Clerk to Governors position.  Please click through to read more detail about this, and if you know of someone interested in a flexible admin job in our community, please pass the word on!

Our Parent Survey will close on Monday morning, so please click through and complete this very short survey if you’ve not already.  Your feedback is really important to us and we’d love to hear your views so.

Also our Travel Survey, which we’ll also close on Monday morning.  We’d love to hear from as many as possible as this would help the whole community, not just the school, in providing some areas to focus our attention on.  Again, only a very short and quick survey.

Lundy Parents’ meeting for year 6… (it’s the same as the year 5 meeting, but with different departure times!) is on Wednesday the 23rd, this week coming, at 2.45pm.

Forget what is behind us and reach straight for what is ahead.

Run straight towards the goal.”
