Dear Children…

I have been writing to your families a lot over the past few days but today I am writing to YOU!

Firstly I wanted to say how proud I am of all of you.  You have been fantastic this year but especially over the past few weeks.  It has been strange at times – having to wash your hands about 40 times per day must have felt a bit odd!  Nevertheless, you did as you were asked without any grumbling, and for that, we are very grateful.

It has felt strange this week as your classes have become smaller and we’ve had to organise ourselves differently.  Some of your friends haven’t been here because they have had a cough or because they needed to be away from school so that they don’t catch any bugs.  And even though there have been fewer children here, the school has still been bursting with noise, learning and laughter – which is exactly how our school should be!  You probably don’t know how important that has been to us adults!

Things are going to become a little stranger too.  We’re now ‘closed…’ and on Monday, we will be open to just a few of you.  Most of you will need to stay at home to ‘socially distance’ yourself and keep yourself safe.  This means you’ll need to stay in your house as much as possible so that you or your family don’t become ill.  That picture above – this may be me on the playground!

For those of you that won’t be at school, we have given you plenty of activities to do with your family.  You will already have some login details for all of the fun online learning sites that we have been using already this year and we will make sure that our website has ideas and links on it for you too.  We will also keep in touch with you and we’re planning on how to do this via video, You Tube or just on the phone.  That’ll be a bit weird won’t it?!

We look forward to having our school family back together really soon.  Hopefully the school closure won’t be for too long and we can get back to normal.  Please, please, please make sure you send us messages and emails about how you’re doing (Miss Sobey will be manning our media hotline and will be in touch about how) … we will really want to hear how you are getting on!

With lots and lots of love, care and support,

Mr Thomas, and the staff here at Georgeham

See you soon!
