Coronavirus update: Monday evening / Tuesday morning … 16th March 2020

Dear parents,

We continue to receive daily emails from the Department for Education and continue to support children and encourage them to wash their hands frequently.  However, Monday afternoon’s press conference extended upon any advice we’d received or passed on…

How will the most recent announcement impact the school:

Anyone with a high temperature or a persistent cough is continuing to be told to:

  • Self-isolate
  • In new advice on Monday evening, entire families (or households of more than one person) have been told to stay isolated together for 14 days if one of them displays either of these symptoms.
‘That means that if possible you should NOT go out, even to buy food or essentials, other than for exercise and in that case at a safe distance from others,’ Boris Johnson said.

And, in advice for everyone:

  • Even if they are not displaying symptoms, the prime minister added: “Now is the time for everyone to stop non-essential contact and to stop all non-essential travel.” People have been advised to avoid pubs, theatres, clubs and social venues.
  • People in ‘at risk’ groups such as pregnant women, those who are over 70 and those with significant underlying vulnerabilities will be asked to largely shield themselves from social contact.

In light of this, Parent Consultations will be cancelled, and we will try to carry these out via a different method – we will write again about our plans, but please be patient as we haven’t yet even met to discuss this update.  We are also in the process of cancelling most external assemblies, visits and visitors over the next two weeks.

Please get in touch with any questions or concerns that you would like to discuss.  Of course, I will be providing further updates via the school’s blog and website as often as is necessary.  Please subscribe to the website so that these come through via email.

Kind regards,

Julian Thomas
