We cannot thank Phil from the RNLI enough for his exciting and insightful visit to Stepping Stones this morning. Not only did he take the time out of his day to visit us, he really did an excellent job of making it fun, interesting and engaging for the very young ages that he was presented with. Thinking ahead Phil sent us a link to a short film for the children to watch about lifeboats as they waited for him to arrive which they really enjoyed. After his arrival Phil explained why he was visiting and we had a group discussion about the things we like to do at the beach and why being safe is important. Then it was time for the real fun…

…We all took a walk down to the road opposite the school and there awaiting was a sparkly RNLI truck equipped with rescue paddle board AND A REAL LIFE JET SKI!!! The children were encouraged to try on the helmets, take a seat on the jet ski and take a look inside the truck. We had a go at talking through the speaker system and even got to listen to the siren which made us all jump and then laugh a lot. We performed some practice rescues and we have to say, the tiddlers of Stepping Stones have some pretty impressive paddling skills!!! We have learned what to do if we get stuck in the water – Stick one hand in the air, keep it still and shout for help! NOT wave your arms about frantically and shout “SAVE ME!” (who knew?). Later we headed back inside and Phil went through the different types of flags to look out for and what they mean which the children really enjoyed. We have witnessed some super cool surf impressions today. You should all be very proud of your very cool and very safe aware children! Here are some pictures for you all to enjoy…
