Georgeham colours were out in full force at this weekend’s Gliddon and Squire Cross Country meet. It’s amazing to see the team grow larger at each event – clearly word is spreading about how much ‘fun’ it is to run around a muddy field on a Sunday morning (for kids) and eat bacon sandwiches (for parents). Elsie L and Myah G joined the regular runners to help boost the girls under 9 and under 11 team. The conditions at West Buckland were perfect – frosty but sunny, with enough mud to be fun without being treacherous! The course was mostly flat and very fast and all the runners all did amazingly with many producing their best results to date whilst still managing to smile and support each other with loud cheers.

The Under 9 girls (Martha, Elsie, Kitty and Elfini) continue to hold onto their 11th place in the school rankings and the Under 11’s (Archie, Fred and Sam) are now moving up the table edging into 9th position (not bad given there were too few runners to count as a team in the first event). The Under 9 boys are moving steadily upwards now they have a team of three to take part (Harry, Alfred and Jack)! These are fantastic results given the size of teams that many other schools and the local athletic clubs are fielding. There’s two more meets early in the New Year – we’d love to welcome more runners into the teams for the relatively fast, flat courses at Northam Burrows and finally, again, at West Buckland.
