Class Stars 🙂 Well done to…

Our Early Years… Maya Maynard

Class 2… Holly Betteridge

Class 3… Belle Bray

Class 4… James Ferguson

This ½ term’s school value is…

We are A Community.

We encourage a sense of belonging and responsibility to each other, our environment and the world we live in…

Attendance so far…

Yr6: 95.5% … Yr5: 96.2% … Yr4: 93.2% … Yr3: xxx%
Yr2: 95.4% … Yr1: 93.6% … Rec: 92%

School average 94.5% (down from 95.2%)

Attendance is really important, but we also have illnesses and Covid-19 loutering around.
It’s clearly important to come to school when you’re well enough,
but please do stay away if you’re unwell.

Reports are out!  We’ll be holding parents meetings over the next fortnight and these will be through a mix of in-school and remote.  Keep an eye out for communication from your teacher.

Which Test?  PCR or LFT?

Have Symptoms?  Then book a PCR, as the LFT isn’t sensitive enough to pick it up.

Have symptoms but the LFD is negative?  Like above… book a PCR.

No symptoms? It’s a good idea to do an LFD test.

We have several children off with Covid at the moment (and staff) but we still have some mitigations in place and the guidance and expectations are still the same.

Stay off school if you are positive – that’s 10 days, but could be a max of 5 (return on day 6) if there are 2 consecutive negative tests.

We’ve seen that a sore throat or a headache are quite a clear indicators of an upcoming positive result, so please do an LFD to check… and a PCR if they do develop into the symptoms.

Attendance at school is still really important, but we understand if you have genuine reasons for staying off school.

Good news… we’re back to good health in the kitchen and we can resume cooking!  Here’s the menu.  Thanks for bringing in packed lunches at short notice.  🙂

Comic
Relief
… Comic Relief raises money for lots of charities, but they’re also raising funds to support Ukraine families that may need help.  What a lovely colourful day, raising money for children and families during these tough times.  We raised over £100 for DEC (link), and that’s with several children away from school today!  (We also had a lovely packed lunch picnic outside today!)

TONIGHT – Croyde Deckchair Cinema has organised a Silent Disco on Friday 18th at Croyde Village Hall too.  With proceeds going to the DEC Ukraine appeal.

A date for your diary…
A Mothers’ Day Lunch at school (two of them actually!)
Class 3 and Class 4 on Tuesday 29th March.
Class 2, Class 1 and Preschool on Thursday the 31st March.

We plan to have siblings sitting together, so for those who may have children on both days you could choose a date, or come to both and choose a different meal!

We cook to order at school so it really is vital that you complete the forms by the given date, when they get emailed to you.
£4.00 for adults, £2.20, as usual, for children.

Back by popular demand – FROGS BINGO Night
Friday 1st April… Georgeham Village Hall…. Doors open at 7pm, eyes down for 7.30pm.
Tickets in advance from Leisha Thomas & Caroline Hooper or Jo in the office.

Year 5 Bikeability… in 3 weeks’ time. Year 5 will be in two groups, starting on the payground first before moving on to the local roads.  It all starts from the 5th April so please have bikes in on that day please.
Year 6 Bikeability… we’ve spotted that year 6 DID have theirs just before the lockdown last year.  We’re investigating if we can do some skills training in June instead, so we’ll confirm closer to the time.

Advanced notice – We’re planning on an Easter assembly at St.George’s Church on the Friday we break up for Easter – 8th April.
FROGS have planned a Cake Sale for that day too, so no doubt you’ll be able to come listen to a few Easter songs (any favourites?),  hear the Easter story, and eat some cake afterwards!
“We Are Community” after all.

Class Stars: Please bring your Teddy Bears (or Monkeys) back after the weekend so they can be on the shelf in your classroom for the week.

Take note (prewarned), it’s Mothers’ Day next weekend.  It’s also the day the clocks go forward; that’s another hour in bed!

Year 6 parents – SATs meeting – We’ve emailed the PowerPoint for those who couldn’t make it.

Some children have asked us to help them understand what’s happening with the war in Ukraine.  Class 4, were shown the CBBC Newsround webpage that describes what’s going on, and we also showed maps to understand where this is all taking place.

link – Newsround: Why has Russia invaded?
link – Place to be: How to talk to children about this?
link – BBC’s Wellbeing resources for parents
link – Five ways to manage your feelings.

Our main focus is of supporting the children, and reacting and helping them understand it if it comes up in conversation.

We recently blogged some information from the DfE about the vaccination programme for 5 to 17 year olds.  Please click here to read more.

Our front doors are open between 8.45 and 8.55 with children doing learning activities as soon as they arrive. Sadly, the ones who arrive late at 9.00 am would have missed this, and the ones who are later can even miss the introduction to the next learning task.

Please aim to arrive at 8.45am

Please do look at the school menu before you leave home in the morning. Keri is unable to adjust the menu each day and it’s important that the children know what’s on offer and are happy to make choices in the morning.

Love your neighbour as yourself.
