Attendance so far…

Yr6: 96% … Yr5: 97% … Yr4: 94.5% … Yr3: 97.3%
Yr2: 96.3% … Yr1: 91.7% … Rec: 92.5%

School average 95.3%
Attendance is really important (if the children are well of course!) and we can only help with education and social support if children are in school. When attendance is low it becomes much harder for children to stay on top of learning, and for us to support them.

The school and Government’s target is 96.5%

Punctuality is also really important, with children arriving 15 minutes late each day (9am) this equates to 2 weeks of education lost each year.

We’ve started back really well with our new school term’s value of “We Are A Community.”

We had Shrove Tuesday on our first day back and so we went outside and restarted our tradition of flipping pancakes down the playground.  We do this in Family Groups; where we split the whole school into four groups across the years, so that the older ones help and support the younger ones.

If the week wasn’t crazy enough already, we then had all the children come to school dressed as book characters for World Book Day.  We had some amazing costumes!  Photos are available on this blog, where you can even see me as Miss Truchbull just to give yourself a laugh!  Yes, I did put a child in the chokey and Yes, I even swung someone round by their pigtails but sadly No, I didn’t have a chocolate cake!  🙁

We’ve not mentioned anything to the children about what’s going on in the World, or what they may have heard in the News.  I’ve seen some odd and also poor advice on social media about how we should handle a ‘bully’ of a World Leader, but our main focus is of supporting the children and, right now, reacting and helping them understand it if, or when, it comes up in conversation.

If you’d like some advice, this is a great webpage about How do you talk to children about war and conflict?

And what if someone is upset by the news?  Hopefully this website can help there too.

We’ve been asked about collections of useful items or toiletries, but we’ve also then heard of stock being withheld at borders and not getting through.  And so we’re currently pondering on monetary donations being passed over to a charity such as UNICEF.  This is something we’re going to consider, and we’ll get back to you about this.

A date for your diary – a Mothers’ Day Lunch at school (two of them actually!)

Class 3 and Class 4 on Tuesday 29th March.

Class 2, Class 1 and Preschool on Thursday the 31st March.

We plan to have siblings sitting together, so for those who may have children on both days you could choose a date, or come to both and choose a different meal!

We cook to order at school so it really is vital that you complete the forms by the given date, when they get emailed to you.  Both the menu and booking form will come out next week.   £4.00 for adults, £2.20, as usual, for children.

Just a reminder that we are temporarily using a mobile network for our phone system.  You can still phone us using the number you have stored (890440) but if we phone you it comes through as a mobile number you won’t recognise. (07909981519 or 07917692425).

This is only temporary and it should be back to normal in a few weeks’ time.

Swimming starts again on Monday for years 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Did you want to see the E-Safety session again?  Please email Jo who will reply with the link and password.

Our front doors are open between 8.45 and 8.55 with children doing learning activities as soon as they arrive. Sadly, the ones who arrive late at 9.00 am would have missed this, and the ones who are later can even miss the introduction to the next learning task.

Please aim to arrive at 8.45am

Please do look at the school menu before you leave home in the morning. Keri is unable to adjust the menu each day and it’s important that the children know what’s on offer and are happy to make choices in the morning.

Love your neighbour as yourself.
