We have had a fantastic morning! We have shown off how much we already know about where the Vikings came from, where they journeyed and even the mysterious lies about Greenland. We discovered why we haven’t any Viking treasures here in Devon, thanks to the King of Wessex!

We then found out about the hidden treasures of England and monasteries full of silver. We learnt about the impenetrable shield walls that the Vikings used in battle and even made our own mini shield wall. Viking artefacts were held and tried on, including helmets, axes & chainmail!

Later on, we heard how King Harold of England took his battle-weary men to Hastings in 1066 and how they fell prey to the French army’s trap.

We heard retellings of tales of pillaging, plundering and revenge; stories of gold and forbidden treasures; stories of dragons and gods and dwarves. These Viking myths & legends kept us enthralled until the very end!
