Our year 5s had their residential on Lundy this week.  The children explored and navigated themselves around the island, but they also made dinner, washed up, swept under the table and, on the return boat, wrote their own sea shanty for the video that I always find myself creating for them!  It’s a trip that really does embody our half-term’s school value where we have high expectations of children and staff, and where we provide as many opportunities as we can to enable our children to fulfill their potential in the widest sense.

We’ll blog some photos of the trip when we can (and the video too of course) but all this takes time and a reliable internet connection… after spending some time with the family, a glass of red wine and maybe some sleep, I’ll start compiling some words and photos to share.

Our staff shout-out this week went to Mr and Mrs Ivall for helping to run the trip, and also Roger Mortimer who’s probably done so for about 8 times now!  Well done year 5 – we’re proud of you!

Summer Santa – Our FROGS (Friends of Georgeham School) haven’t been able to do any of their usual fundraising over the past year and a half and the school has missed out on the many thousands of pounds that they bring in.  We appreciate you’ve not been able to come in and have tea and cake, bounced on a bouncy castle or thrown a wet sponge at Mr Thomas, but if you could help support our school, please click through to our Summer Santa page

A huge thanks to all the vendors at Croyde Village Sunday Market who were incredibly generous with their donation to FROGS, when they’ve not long been open and trading.  A HUGE thank you for supporting our children!  x

Next Friday… a Non-uniform day to support a charity that’s helped us in the past – Families In Grief.  Covid-19 restrictions have really impacted on this charity, with support being stretched and families feeling more isolated a a result.  This is another charity that’s found it impossible to do any fundraising, at a time when it’s needed even more.  Please bring in a coin or paper donation to help them out.

Over 50 families returned the parents’ survey and it was brilliantly positive… thank you!  We’ll report in more detail in a separate blog, so please look out for it.

We also had some great feedback and thoughts from the Travel Survey.  Again, keep an eye out for a separate blog, but thank you for completing it so quickly for us!

Could you be our next Parent Governor or Clerk to Governors?

You may be aware that we are currently seeking to recruit two positions at the school:

–          A voluntary Parent Governor to join our governing board

–          A paid, part time Clerk to Governors to administer the work of the governors

Governors play an important role in the school and support the head teacher to ensure the school has a clear strategic direction and plan, the finances to achieve it and remains focused on ensuring positive outcomes for all the pupils who attend.

Over the last five years the governing board has supported the school to deliver a number of key projects including:  the re-setting of the School’s Vision and Values, the development of physical spaces around the school, the investment in significant improvements to the school’s playground and physical equipment and the decision to form a Co-operative Trust with a group of local schools.
