Class 1 have had lots of fun this half term learning all about minibeasts. We have been very busy finding real minibeasts outside, drawing and making colourful minibeasts, creating a humongous collage caterpillar, raising our own class butterflies, learning and writing all about the story of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’, tasting and describing the food that the hungry caterpillar ate and doing lots of number work. In maths we have been practising addition, subtraction, estimating, sharing and doubling. We have also been practising many different languages by saying hello in the register in lots of different ways! We were very excited when Carl our caterpillar came out as a beautiful moth with lots of patterns on it! We are also waiting on our butterflies to appear from their cocoons, they have been enjoying a nice long sleep lately. Our sunflowers are growing well so we are looking forward to seeing how much they have grown after half term!

The children seemed to have really enjoyed their learning this half term…

“My favourite part was writing a story about Layla the ladybird.” says Martha.

“I loved learning all of the actions to The Very Hungry Caterpillar story. My favourite action is when he ate through one apple because we get to munch on an apple!” says Kitty. (Not a real one every time though Kitty!)

“I liked learning lots of facts on minibeasts.” says Thea.

Jack says “I loved learning about ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. I liked tasting the strawberries but I didn’t like the plums!” – Well done for trying the plums anyway Jack!

Well done everyone, you have been working so hard. Now to look forward to our trip to the zoo tomorrow, maybe we will find even more minibeasts there!
