In science club we made catapults. We tried to see how we could adapt the catapult to make our missiles travel further. With a bit of practice, the missiles could also be made to land quite accurately on targets around the room.

When we were exploring the catapults we found that the missile travels further with a longer catapult arm. We also discovered that jelly babies go further (and are more accurate) than small pom poms, someone thought this might be because jelly babies were more aerodynamic.

It was a strange sight to have 10 jelly babies flying across the school hall, but it was good fun.

BUT-We did have to remember to be very careful with our catapults so that nobody got hit.

Watch out!

Has anyone tried to make a catapult at home? What did you use to make yours?
