For the first part of the morning we talked about ways that we could improve our working memories. We learned about the difference between visual and auditory memory and discovered skills that can make us remember more effectively.

We played a visual memory game and followed verbal instructions that got more complicated.

Everyone decided that they learned a new way to help them to remember.

Here are a few of the comments from the children:

Sam “I made a picture in my mind of what I was trying to remember”

Charlie “I rehearsed what I had to do over and over again”

Joel “I remembered the biggest thing first”

Micah “I remembered things that were related-I remembered knife, fork and spoon and that was 3 of the 6 things remembered”

We also talked about how important it was to focus on the thing that you are trying to remember and not to get distracted by other things 😉
